Flash! Aaah-ahh!

I want to make Flash animations for work. Someone recommend a programme for me!

Flash is a *beast* to learn. I have an 'easy' guide that you're welcome to. It's like trying to design a multi-layered website on a moving timeline.

It depends what you want to do with flash. If you're looking for animated text or simple moving objects, or embedded videos, there are some applications to do that, such as Anim-FX (http://www.anim-fx.com/)

If you're looking for interactive stuff, or any kind of flash game, you've got a steep learning curve ahead of you.

Plus, if it's for websites, bear in mind that flash does not support ALT tags - and that's how blind people navigate the internet. You may have accessibility issues to consider.

if you find anything, let me know - I'd love to do some for Judder visuals (my visuals software can show flash files). B ut you may well be better off farming out to someone - I believe [livejournal.com profile] disastrid might have some experience...

There's also one called Swish: http://www.swishzone.com/index.php that is quite highly regarded in the visuals/VJ world

The only real reason to use flash is for the web, as it's a vector-based programme which is good for reduced file sizes. If it's ending up on DVD, filesize doesn't matter. I believe Adobe AfterEffects is the weapon of choice http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/aftereffects/?sdid=BYDIK and Sony Vegas is also worth a look, although that's more video editing - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/vegasfamily.asp
