So, mere hours after I finish telling [livejournal.com profile] flywingedmonkey how much I hate my car, it tries to kill me again. This time the throttle cable snapped at junction 32, leaving me stranded in the middle of three lanes of traffic. A white van man and a motorcyclist almost expired pushing the car to the side of the road (how I chortled when I realised I could have driven it there on the clutch myself) and the RAC appeared 45 minutes later, just before I caught hypothermia. (Always keep a coat in your car, kids!)

Earlier dodgy repairs meant that what ought to have been a quick fix is now a garage job and I had to get my car towed to Wild West Garages Inc, where instead of machining out the pin and replacing it, they're probably going to try and charge me to replace the entire throttle box. There are two things to be thankful for:

1. Because I had things and stuff to do after work, there wasn't much traffic when I got stranded and the roads were relatively quiet, making it far less scary to be sitting at a dead stop in the middle of everything.
2. I have the day off work and got to have a lie in. Woo hoo.

[livejournal.com profile] xxxrated and [livejournal.com profile] phiil: This may effect our weekend plans as I could be carless until Monday. I shall call you both to make new plans as soon as I know what's going on.

I think you mean "affect" not "effect" unless you're saying that your carlessness is bringing those very plans into being. I'm not being pedantic, just picky.

That would be: "This may effect *new* weekend plans..." or "This may effect *a change in the* weekend plans..." Sorry, but my students getting effect/affect wrong was something that used to drive me up the wall as a tutor. Along with its/it's of course...

It depends on whether the change is great enough to become qualitative, say for example being moved to midweek but then it'd be "...effect our midweek plans...". In any case, it'd be a courtesy to let the reader know that the effected plans are not in fact the previous ones, whilst of course the affected ones would be (assuming a non-qualitative change).

I'll think you'll find it's being picky!

Your car blows. It's way newer than mine, and mine has NEVER broken down. the only repairs its had are from when someone else drove into it before I owned it, and when I crashed it. Take it back!

What is it with cars.... Hope it recovers rapidly :/
Mine is making ever louder boy-racery farty noises, but at least it still moves.

What time is the falling tide BTW, as I believe James may be interested if we'll be done by 4.

Incidentally - saw a squid in a jar yesterday, and thought of you :)

You TOTALLY need to incest (I mean invest but that was a wonderful typo!) in the ex-army truck/jeep/tank thingy you were thinking of doing. Then you could kill people with your car instead of your car trying to kill you.

Much better idea.

I am indeed convinced by the terribleness of your motor and shall not fall into the same automotive trap. It is very nice of you to endure all these problems just to teach me something about cars...
