Today I had fun with fire and borax and accidentally erased my fingerprints with a wire wool drill bit. That probably ought to have hurt more than it did. Anyway, this is the result of all my swearing.

Thanks guys! When I have more than a couple of hours a week to work on this stuff I'll be happy to accept challenges. This one took me 4 weeks (6 ½ hours) and apart from those pesky little C's, it wasn't very complicated at all.

In theory the distressing should age at the same rate as the rest as it's a corrosion. Though oxides can protect metal, so maybe the rest will age faster.
what metal is it?
and why were the C's hard?
wasn't it just drill, saw, file??

Actually, I cheated and it's more of a lacquer, so I'm not sure how long it will be before it starts to flake off, although it's resisted quite a lot of sanding and plishing so far.

And the C's were hard because the whole thing is only about 4cm across - the cut outs are the same width across as the smallest drill bit I could find. Very fiddly.
