Picked up this flyer in Bristol the other day:

Calling all Long Hairs, Metalheads and Headbangers!

A new BBC documentary about HEAVY METAL is looking for headbanging volunteers
MUST HAVE LONG HAIR!

Call Anna on 0117 974 2240 or e-mail anna.gravelle@bbc.co.uk

Oooh. Haircut. Haiiiircut!
(And doesn't 'Long Hair' sound like a breed of goat or something?)

Also - Torchwood. It's OK, isn't it? Except
1.Not everyone who lives in Cardiff is Welsh, boyo boyo pot nooodle.
2.When you use a real town and real place names, try to make sure that people who are running could actually feasibly get from point A to point B without switching directions/magic legs.

I'm starting to warm to torchwood, after sort of cringeing through the first one. Last night's was actually not bad at all. But I can't help but notice that the decor in all the houses is like, 50 years ago - so true :)

I'd be careful about the BBC heavy metal thing. There were some BBC people at a recent role-playing event I was at, and then some more at the Goth weekend in Whitby. I think they're doing a whole series looking at 'alternative' hobbies and lifestyles. Based on past experiences, these have a tendency to end up as freak pointing after they've been through the editorial process, regardless of what the actual film makers tell you they're doing at the time.

Well I didn't go to WGW properly, but we know somebody who was supposed to be doing a bungee jump (it got cancelled because of the wind), so we popped over for a day out on Saturday to say hello and eat fish and chips.

i suspect, as with a lot of things that are set in real places, that it's all a perceived geography in cardiff.

i too was particularly annoyed when they got from the bowling alley down the bay to st mary's street in a matter of seconds. i guess it's not really worth questioning it, though! :)

I can't make up my mind about Torchwood, I like it & it's probably one of the few shows in recent memory from the conglomerate known as the BBC that's been worth watching. But parts of it just seem so wrong! The two main character (annoyingly charasmatic American leader, probably chosen to increase the value of exporting the show to America) plus the down-to-earth girl-next-door from down the Valleys (to make Welsh people, feel national connection?) combined with the Political Correctness journalistic approach which seems to be flowing with Pro-Gay tendencies. Casual conversations among builders about why Polish immigrants are so vital & useful to our economy, make me cringe a lot of the time.

It's really bloody silly, but I do enjoy it. The CSI-esque city landscape shots of Cardiff beauty spots is amusing too. PLUS OHMYGOD THE STRANGE WATERFOUNTAIN IS A SECRET ENTRANCE TO A LAIR!!!!

PS it bugs me how they're the elite group of Government who have the security presence equal to that of an unlocked Spar at midnight in Splott. They have the most advanced technology in the world - and you can walk out the door with anything you please - come on

Metal and Torches

I shall be in touch with this 'Anne' woman. Perhaps I can then live my dream (one of many)... travelling around the world filming a documentary about metal, er, around the world! Starting in Birmingham, I would use a beige Austin Allegro for transport, because this would be more environmentally responsible than using planes, apparently.

Longhairs and ROCK!

Passed this on to a collegue who is very much a long haired rocker, and he got this response (which he kindly said I could pass on to you)

We're filming a documentary series on rock music. One of the progs is on 'metal'. We've shot all the interviews with our stars pretty much, but need to shoot a few scenes of headbangers in a studio in bristol. I'm hoping we'll get it shot in half a day.
We need about 15/20 people for the shot, so if you know anyone else who'd be interested, let me know.

So there you go. :0)
